Case #1: Changing Password On New/Latest Netgear Genie Routers

If you’ve latest router model/version, this approach is especially for you. Follow the below steps to reset the password of your Netgear Genie Router.

Step 1: First of all, you need to open internet browser on your laptop/PC and visit default gateway address “192.168.0.1”. In case if this link doesn’t work for you, try accessing below links.

  • 168.0.1
  • net
  • com

Note: If you’ve changed your router URL from one of the above-given default URLs, you need to visit the URL you’ve defined.

Step 2: Once you’re there, enter existing login credentials (username and password) to the relevant fields provided there on the page. The default username and password for your Netgear Genie Router are respectively “admin” and “password.” Once you enter these login credentials, hit enter and you will access the user interface page.

Stp 3: On the user interface page, you need to get into the “Advanced” section and then click on “Setup” tab available there on the left.

 

Step 4: Now you need to click on the “Wireless” tab.

 

Stp 5: Now this is the page where you need to delete the existing password from field available next to “Passphrase.”

 

Step 6: Now add/define a new password and then click on “Apply/Save Setting” tab to let the change take place.

That’s it. You’ve successfully changed the password of your Netgear Genie Router.

Case #2: Changing Password On Old Netgear Router Versions

The procedure here is almost the same, but not exactly. The old Netgear Router User Interface has few different sets of options, and thus there will be few different steps involved here while changing the password. So, let’s proceed with the steps now.

 

Step 1 &2: Step 1 and Step 2 here are the same as in Case #1.

 

Step 3: Once you login, you need to click on “Wireless Security” option available there on the user interface page.

Step 4: Now delete the existing password from the field next to “Pre-shared Key.”

Step 5: Now add/define a new password that you want to use.

 

Step 6: Now click on “Save Settings” Or “Apply” to activate the newly defined password. Once done, log out your Netgear Router Account.

 

That’s it. You’ve successfully changed the password for your Netgear Router and activated the new password.
